This unit applies to the modification, customisation and setting of machines for product change working largely independently and being accountable for own results including carrying out assigned tasks, coordinating processes, and setting and working to deadlines. Work may be conducted in a variety of environments, such as operational workplace activities, restricted space and hazardous, controlled or exposed conditions.
Products and materials include those typically used within each sector of the Textile, Clothing, Footwear and Allied industry sectors including: various textile production sectors:
early stage wool processing
hide, skin and leather production
canvas fabrication
leather goods production
clothing production
millinery
footwear production
laundries
dry cleaning
Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities.
The unit is applied according to OHS and workplace practices of the enterprise, which may include:
requirements prescribed by legislation, awards, agreements and conditions of employment
standard operating procedures
work instructions
oral, written and visual communication
quality practices, including responsibility for maintenance of own work quality and contribution to quality improvement of team or section output
housekeeping
tasks related to environmental protection, waste disposal, pollution control and recycling
This unit requires the application of skills associated with communication in the interpretation and documentation of technical information, and planning and organising machine sequencing set up and modification for production. Initiative and enterprise and problem solving will be used to check sample and readjust or confirm machine modifications or settings.
